Black Teas

Black teas are often considered to be a dense tea in relation to green and white teas, creating a more potent flavor.  They are known to help maintain heart health and improve skin and bone strength.

Because of the higher caffeine content, black teas are best for when you are in need of an energy boost. Black teas hold approximately 20% of the caffeine in one cup of coffee, making them more highly caffeinated than white and green teas.  That is why you will find some black teas that say they are decaffeinated.  

When heating the water to brew black teas, you can bring the water close to boiling point because the leaves tend to hold up well against hot water.  Black teas are usually steeped for 2-5 minutes, but always refer to the tin's individual instructions. 

One kind of black tea is called pu-erh and is found in cake tea form as seen above.  A cake tea is simply loose leaf tea that has been packed together in the form of a cake.  When brewing, you break off a piece and place it in your infuser just as you would with loose leaves.
