SECTION 2B: Make Text Visible

Be aware of the size of your presentation room and the location of your audience. Your slides must be visible to everyone in your audience, regardless of where he or she is seated.

The most common problem with presentation graphics is that they are too small. Don't transfer information from an 8.5 x 11-inch page directly to a slide or transparency. In general, text has to be in 24-point type or larger to be visible on the screen. To save space, compress sentences into brief phrases.

Example
The audience would not be able to read the graphic below, which was transferred from a scanned page of a text directly into the slide.

In most situations, a bulleted item should appear only after you click the mouse and should dim after you finish discussing it. As a result, your audience focuses on the most visible item, the one you are discussing, and does not become distracted by an entire list of items. Consult your program's Help feature for specific instructions for achieving this kind of animation.

Example
In this slide, the presenter has finished discussing the first two methods and is now discussing the third.
