Because your presentation is oral and your slides are constantly changing, your audience needs to understand where you are in your presentation and where you are going. Use an overview slide at the beginning of your presentation, and include context slides whenever you move from one major point to another.

This overview slide introduces the topics to be covered during the presentation. The overview helps listeners follow the presentation by helping them create a mental model of what they are about to hear.

Context slides like the one below should begin each major part of your presentation so that your audience understands how the next section fits into the entire presentation. In this example, the speaker is reusing the Overview slide to reorient the audience after each major section of the presentation. At this point, the speaker is introducing the Methods section. Dimming all other bulleted items keeps the audience's focus on the topic to be discussed next.
