Mike Markel's Web Design Tutorial
SECTION 2C: Make Slides Legible

Effective presentation slides must not only be visible but legible as well. That is, your audience must be able to make sense of drawings and read the text displayed on your slides.

Use clear, legible lines for drawings and diagrams: black on white provides the highest contrast.

Example
The drawings on this slide are hard to interpret because of the many colored lines that cross and overlap. In addition, the descriptive text is so small that the audience would not understand the meaning of the lines, even if they were distinguishable.

Use legible typefaces for text. A bold-faced, sans serif typeface such as Arial or Helvetica is effective because it reproduces clearly on a screen. Avoid shadowed and outlined letters.

Example
The text in this presentation slide is hard to read because of the decorative typeface and shadow effect.
