Mike Markel's Web Design Tutorial
SECTION 3D: Using Styles and White Space

Study this page, focusing on the following questions:
  1. What evidence do you find that suggests that the writer of this page did not use the styles feature effectively?

Inconsistency in the formatting of the page's elements suggests that the writer did not use styles: (1) The first paragraph is full justified while the remaining paragraphs are ragged right, (2) the Section 2 heading (not underlined) is not formatted to match the other first-level headings, and (3) the space after Section 2 is significantly greater than the space after other sections.

  2. What feedback would you give this writer concerning the use of white space on this page?

For a typical report, the lines are too far apart, making the page look diffuse. In addition, the left and right margins are probably too large. Similarly, the space between sections (especially between Sections 2 and 3) is too great.
